Many businesses are not aware of the goldmine they are sitting on – a class of asset called
Intellectual Property – which most people know as Trademarks, patents, copyrights, and designs.

Businesses in the knowledge economy are valued for their intangible assets. This session will provide
insights into how businesses can leverage their IP rights and assets to unlock the full potential of
their businesses.

Mohan has accumulated nearly 20 years of solid experience in the Intellectual Property field and has
gained extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as in
providing advisory and consulting expertise in a wide range of Strategic Intellectual Property related
matters including IP monetisation, commercialisation, innovation and technology transfer.
Upon graduating from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom in 1996, Mohan started his
career with Shearn Delamore, a reputed legal firm. He went on to head the patent department in yet
another reputed organization, Ella Chong Mirandah & Spruson (M) Sdn. Bhd.

In 2004 together with a team of legal and technical professionals he started an IP firm Adastra
Intellectual Property Sdn. Bhd which continues to serve clients both in Malaysia as well as regionally.
Adastra has been expanding its reach and operations to other countries and have offices in India,
Singapore and Indonesia.

Over the years, he has successfully built an excellent rapport with the Malaysian Patent Office and is
familiar with foreign prosecutions especially the PCT route and US and European applications. He
also has extensive collaborations with patent counsels worldwide.
He is able to identify and analyse Intellectual Property concerns and can effectively communicate
analysis and conclusions to clients.

Mr. Mohan continues to have a key involvement in the development of Intellectual Property locally
and worldwide and has actively been a speaker at various talks and seminars organized by the
government and commercial organizations in Malaysia and also been a judge for several inventions
competitions held here. He also sits on a few industry advisory panels including the SME Corp Panel
for Entrepreneurship and the Scientific and Economic Council for Malaysia Rubber Board.
He is also the Vice President of the Malaysian Association for Creativity and Innovation (MACRI),
Council Member of the ASEAN India Business Council (AIBC) and recently selected as Pioneer Mentor
under the ASEAN Entrepreneurship Mentor Programme.

In 2013, Mr. Mohan was awarded as Best Patent Agent for year 2012 by Intellectual Property
Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). In 2016, he is listed as one of the top recommended individual for
patent prosecution in Malaysia by IAM Top 1000. He is also an award winner for the PERDANA

Christine Ng

Christine’s educational background is on Economics and Management, she spent her early
working days in the human and talent development industry. Since 2004, she has been involved
in the area of teaching, using and researching Innovation as well as specialising in Intellectual
Property management and strategy, patent analytics and technology landscaping and IP

In Malaysia, She has conducted various public and customised in-house workshops on
Innovation and IP, she consults on strategic and benchmarking aspects of Innovation and IP.
Some of her training and consulting clients include PETRONAS, MiGHT ( Malaysia Industry-
Government Group for High Technology), Malaysian Agricultural Research & Development
Institute (MARDI), Standard Chartered Bank, Telekom Malaysia, Pfizer, Intellectual Property
Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), Malaysia Digital Economy Malaysia (MDEC) and various public
universities in Malaysia to name a few.

She currently heads the IP valuation and Strategic IP Department of Adastra IP and works with a
team of finance, valuation and IP experts on providing IP valuation services to clients, ranging
from Malaysian Public Listed Companies, Small medium corporations to individual IP owners in
unlocking the potential of their IP assets for various monetization purposes.
