Copyright (or an author’s right) is a legal term used to describe the rights that a creator has over his or her literary and artistic work.
Copyright laws were put in place to balance the desire of culture of using and reusing original artworks against the desire of the creators of art, literature, music and the like to monetise their work by controlling who can make and sell copies of the work.
These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights.
While many aspects of the national copyright laws have been standardized through international copyright agreements, copyright laws may still vary by country.
