Session Summary 

The Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS), developed by Professor(s) W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne is based on the idea of simultaneous pursuit of differentiation and low cost factors.

BOS aims to make the competition irrelevant by reconstructing industry boundaries. It offers systematic tools and frameworks to break away from the competition and create a blue ocean of uncontested market space – where rules of the game are waiting to be set.
With strategic formulation process such as ’Steps to Visualizing Strategy’, BOS helps to develop a new strategy by understanding and analyzing the industry and exploring and integrating new opportunities into the market.

As an integrated approach, BOS aligns the three strategy propositions – value, profit, and people – therefore creating a win-win situation for buyers, the company, and for employees and stakeholder.

Our Speakers

Raj Kumar

Raj Kumar is the CEO of UCSI Consulting Group and a certified Consultant and Practitioner from the Blue Ocean Strategy-Initiative Centre of Professors Kim and Mauborgne, co-creators of Blue Ocean Strategy. His portfolio includes the formulation of Blue Ocean Strategies for the No. 1 Global Pharmaceutical company, the largest bank in Asia, the largest media agency in Asia, a leading education institution in South East Asia and a mega property development project in the region. Raj has conducted Blue Ocean Strategy programmes across North America, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, interacting with participants from over 25 countries. He holds a Master of Science in Strategic Business from University of Portsmouth (UK), a Postgraduate Diploma from NCC Education (UK) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from University Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia). Raj is currently a doctoral scholar in Business and Administration at UCSI University majoring in organizational innovation.

Sivanesuvary Appukuddy

Sivanesuvary Appukuddy is a former Deputy Director at the National Institute of Public Administration, (INTAN) Malaysia and a former head at the INTAN Blue Ocean Strategy Centre. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Malaya and a MBA in Blue Ocean Strategy from UCSI University.

In 2014, she was certified by CIPD (London) as a Learning and Development professional. As an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in the Malaysian Civil Service, she has served in a number of ministries in the Malaysian public service since 1979. Having been trained in Blue Ocean Strategy at INSEAD France, she now provides Blue Ocean Strategy training and consultancy to both private and public sector organisations and is a past working member of the National Strategic Execution Summit that oversees execution of Malaysia’s National Blue Ocean Strategies.
