Cybersecurity is the protection of computer systems, networks, and programmes from unwanted digital attacks.
The attacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying user sensitive data, extorting money from users, and/or interrupting day-to-day business processes. Implementing effective cybersecurity measures is particularly challenging these days because of the fact that there are more devices than there are people, and attackers are becoming smarter and innovative.
At an individual level, cybersecurity attacks range from identity theft, extortion attempts, to the loss of important data like family and personal photos while at an organisation level, when everyone relies on critical infrastructures like power plants, hospitals, and financial service companies, it is essential to ensure these organizations are secure from malicious attacks and keep our society functioning.
